Optics/ Spotting Scopes. Night Vision/ Advice

Doing some topping off on some our family ordnance acquisition, sustainment and ,if required, deployment materiels to our B.O. location should the need arise. (Does that sound military enough?)

I'm down to just about the last of my allocated cash budget on these items , so I need some input re. the captioned.

This board offers so much in the way of resources I am sometimes overwhelmed by what I don't know that others do...and I feel like I should!

I am needing your thoughts on a relatively inexpensive, but dependable, spotting scope. I need at least a 200 yd sight range with good enough resolution to pick up 308 hits on a target... in addition to general surveillance at the same distance.

Also, and this may be out-of-budget, I'm looking for thoughts/suggestions on night vision optics for approximately the same distance. I'm assuming this would have to be a passive system at that long distance. (I might, however, be able to illuminate at least one area of interest with IR if that would work...or even be possible)

I hope that posting this under "Firearms" is not inappropriate.

I know what I don't know , it's what I don't know I don't know that concerns me (where have I heard that before?)

TIA

A night vision scope is a bit pricey. How about this one?

I bought mine from opticsplanet.com they have some good prices, I don't use mine for the purposes you mentioned, i basically use it for spotting boats at night on the open ocean. If you are looking for something with range indication you'll prolly need a good budget.

I have never tried to see that kind of detail, but i think it would be pretty easy with mine.

Depending on what state you live in you might not be able to purchase night scopes....:banghead:

here is my 2 cents worth on spotting scopes: nothing CHEEP will resolve 30 caliber holes at 200 yards. You are going to need something that says Leupold, Swarovski, ZEISS and costs near a grand for that job.
I have tried the under 300 dollar Bausch and Lomb , bushnell, and TASCO units that struggle to see hits at 100 yards, in real good light with clean paper they are barely adequate.
throw in a few hits on target, or a bit of rain, or a cloudy day, or get beyond 100 yards and they are pretty sad glass.

I have a 99 frn barska and I just picked up a 59 frn simmons.
The barska 20-60 picks up a very clear picture at 125 yds. Thats the farthest I have used it shooting. The new one I haven't used yet but seems comparable.

Nikon makes some nice scopes for under 300 that I can see hits easily at 100 yards. Maybe you should give them a try. :s9:

Nikon you say? I will give them a try.
They do certainly make high quality camera lenses for a a reasonable price.

Tanks NOOB, I have heard that the Barska is a pretty good scope for the price.
Glad you confirmed.

BTW, I think Simmons was bought out by Leupold...and they don't honor Simmons warranty...just FYI (Found that out the hard way)

Thanks Again
